Kenworth Truck Company Named One of Top 50 Green Companies in Washington State

SEATTLE, Wash., September 22, 2011 – Kenworth Truck Company was honored as one of the Top 50 Green companies in Washington State by Seattle Business magazine during a special awards banquet Wednesday night in Seattle.

The Green Washington Awards recognize Washington state organizations that have demonstrated leadership in sustainability by launching initiatives to cut carbon emissions, improve the environment and develop or apply clean technology. The magazine’s Green 50 includes companies, government agencies and non-profits.

Kenworth received a Green 50 award in recognition of its environmentally friendly products, which include aerodynamic trucks, compressed and liquefied natural gas trucks, medium duty diesel-electric hybrids; and low-emission PACCAR MX, PACCAR PX-8 and PACCAR PX-6 diesel engines. Also recognized are the efforts of Kenworth’s manufacturing facilities to build Class 8 trucks in an environmentally sustainable manner.

“Kenworth is honored to receive the 2011 GREEN 50 award in recognition of our comprehensive environmental efforts,” said Gary Moore, Kenworth general manager. “Kenworth is an industry leader in offering products that help customers to enhance fuel efficiency and reduce emissions.”

Kenworth is the only truck manufacturer to receive the Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Air Excellence award in recognition of its environmentally friendly products. Both the aerodynamic Kenworth T660 and T700 have received EPA SmartWaySM Program designation. The T700 equipped with the low-emission PACCAR MX engine was named 2011 Heavy Duty Commercial Truck of the Year by the American Truck Dealers. More than 500 Kenworth hybrids are in operation throughout the United States and Canada along with several hundred Kenworth natural gas trucks.

Last year, Kenworth was honored by the Association of Washington Business with the 2010 Green Manufacturing Award in the large company category. Kenworth’s manufacturing facility in Renton, Wash., earned a 2011 Best Workplace for Recycling and Waste Reduction Award from King County’s Solid Waste Division for outstanding efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle.  This past spring, Kenworth-Renton also received a 2010 Gold Award from the King County Industrial Waste Program for compliance with the plant’s industrial wastewater discharge permit.

Kenworth-Renton, the Kenworth plant in Chillicothe, Ohio, and the PACCAR manufacturing facility in Ste. Therese, Que., all have earned the prestigious ISO (International Standards Organization) 14001:2004 certification for effective environmental management systems established to help build trucks in an environmentally sustainable manner.

Kenworth Truck Company is the manufacturer of The World’s Best® heavy and medium duty trucks. Kenworth is also the recipient of J.D. Power and Associates awards for Highest in Customer Satisfaction for both 2011 Heavy Duty Truck Dealer Service and 2010 Medium Duty Truck Dealer Service.
